Food Tasting : Kong Guan Yam Steamed Bun (Yam Pau) 康源芋泥包

Bit Bit was shopping around at Giant, and suddenly had a craving for yam pau. Since steaming the paus at home is cheaper and fresher than buying from the kopitiams outside, Bit Bit bought a packet of Kong Guan Yam Pau, sponsored by Pig.

Method that Bit Bit used to make Yam Pau:
  1. Pour a low level of water into a pot.
  2. Bring the water to a boil.
  3. Place the yam pau in a bowl.
  4. Put the bowl into the pot.
  5. Cover the pot with a lid.
  6. Turn heat to medium-low and steam for about 15 minutes.
  7. Peel off sticker at the bottom of the yam pau and enjoy!

The yam pau from Kong Guan is certified as vegetarian, and it is made of wheat flour, yam, sugar and some colourings, so this pau is suitable for most people. It is also quite low in calories, considering it to be something sweet and filling.

On the packaging, it states that one does not need to defrost the yam paus when one feels like eating them. One just need to steam for 15 to 18 minutes or wrap it with cling film and microwave at high for 60 to 65 seconds. However, Bit Bit did not try that as paus should defrost properly first before steaming, so that the filling will be smoother and the skin softer.

When the yam paus are eaten hot, the skin is really soft with yummy, hot filling. Bit Bit also tried eating them at room temperature, where the pau is left in the pot for a few hours after steaming. The skin did not turn hard, although not as soft as the hot yam paus, it is still an acceptable kind of soft for paus. One can also taste a slight sweetness in the pau skin. The filling is also smooth and sweet, with no lumps inside.

One yam pau plus one cup of water, yummy!

Food Tasting : Royal Dansk Danish Butter Cookies (Biscuits Danois au Beurre)

Bit Bit went marketing the other day at Giant, and was eligible for the 'Purchase with Purchase' promotion, so Bit Bit bought this Royal Dansk Danish Butter Cookies. Butter cookies in a round tin has always been Bit Bit's favourite biscuits from young, so Bit Bit is happy to be able to buy it.

The ingredients for the butter cookies look okay for vegetarians, but the biscuits may contain traces of eggs, so Bit Bit thinks that it is not suitable for vegetarians on the safe side. And so, the whole tin of butter cookies belongs to Bit Bit only since Pig is unable to eat them.

Bit Bit has always liked the biscuit tins, because after finishing the cookies, one can keep their things in this durable tin. The tape sealing of the tin is also made of good quality, as Bit Bit is able to reuse the tape without the sticky feeling or tape sticking to each other.

The biscuits are firm and different shapes have different textures to them. The rectangle one covered in sugar, is crunchier and has a nice sweet taste. The circle swirl with a hole in the middle is crunchy and has a stronger vanilla taste. The one that is shaped like a pretzel is slightly softer than the rectangle one but just as yummy. The two circle ones are similiar, just that the one that has a rougher surface seems to have more coconut bits in it. They are also slightly softer than the ones with sugar.

Bit Bit loves butter cookies, but not the calories. As there is no nutrition facts shown, Bit Bit did a search and found out there is 170kcals for every 4 pieces of biscuits. Though these are empty calories, dieting does not mean that one is not able to eat them, 4 pieces of biscuits and a cup of water will keep one satisfied and full!

Food Tasting : Daiso Japanese Vegetable Curry (Hot) 野菜カレー (辛口)

Bit Bit had been wanting to eat the japanese vegetable curry 野菜カレー which was bought at Daiso a week back, as it looks so yummy and curry is one of Bit Bit's top favourite food. Since Bit Bit could not think of anything to eat in the morning, the vegetable curry came to Bit Bit's mind.

Method that Bit Bit used to make Vegetable Curry Rice:
  1. Bring a pot of water to boil.
  2. Open the curry package halfway.
  3. Place the curry package in the boiling water for about five minutes.
  4. Scoop some red rice on a plate to go with the curry.
  5. Pour the curry next to the rice.
  6. Serve and eat!

The kare raisu is done!

There are some small potato cubes in the curry package, and they do not taste soft and mashy, but soft and firm. Yummy! The spiciness for the curry is also good, not super spicy, but also not bland. The curry sauce is also a lot and Bit Bit just ate the curry sauce without the rice when the rice ran out. The calories is also low for curry! Bit Bit really likes this curry a lot, and is thinking of going back to Daiso to buy more.

However, although this is vegetable curry, it is not suitable for vegetarians as it contains onion, worcester sauce and garlic.

Bit Bit recommends to add some cube potatoes, carrots and sliced meat to the curry, cook it a little and serve with rice.

Food Tasting : Daiso Menno Sunaoshi China Soba with Soup 支那そば

Bit Bit suddenly got hungry in the middle of the night, and instead of eating snacks, Bit Bit wanted to eat something that is filling and not sweet. Therefore, Bit Bit decided to eat the Menno Sunaoshi China Soba with Soup 支那そば that was bought a few days back.

Method that Bit Bit used to cook the Shina Soba:
  1. Bring a pot of water to boil.
  2. Add in the noodles and cook till soft and chewy.
  3. Remove the noodles and pour away the water.
  4. Bring about 400ml of water to boil and add in the cooked noodles.
  5. Add in the soup base packet provided.
  6. Simmer for a minute.
  7. Serve and slurp up the noodles.

The shoyu ramen is done!

The soup base is shoyu flavoured, so remember to add more water else it may get quite salty. The noodles are also salty on its own. Though Bit Bit has a high tolerance to saltiness and likes eating instant noodles with thick soup concentration, it is actually slightly overwhelming for Bit Bit. Otherwise, the soup tastes yummy and Bit Bit does not really feel thirsty after finishing the noodles.

The noodles are soft and chewy. It may look little when it is dried, but actually it is very filling and very suitable for males. Bit Bit felt full after eating 3/4 of the noodles.

Although it is ramen, the noodles are low in calories as compared to other ramen. It is highly recommended for those who are on a diet but also craves for ramen.

To make it more nutritious, add a boiled egg, some steamed vegetables and lean meat slices. For flavour, eat it with red chilli padi.

This dish is not suitable for vegetarians though.

Food Tasting : Daiso Ace Coin Biscuits エースコイソ

Bit Bit went to Daiso yesterday and bought this packet of biscuits. It is named as Ace Coin Biscuits and if Bit Bit did not translate wrongly, it is called Esukoiso (エースコイソ). Pig wanted to buy the biscuits because they looked like coins and Pig has a money face ($_$).

The ace coin biscuits are made of wheat flour, sugar, shortening, sweetened condensed milk, salt, raising agent, vanilla flavour, emulsifier and contains trace of soybean. According to the ingredients, the biscuits are suitable for vegetarians, so Pig can eat them too.

The biscuits are shaped like Japanese coins of the many different periods. They are very crunchy with a sweet vanilla taste. Bit Bit finds them very yummy and the price is actually quite reasonable.

The bad point about the ace coin biscuits is that they are high in calories, and Bit Bit has to have a high level of control when eating them, else the whole packet will be finish within a blink of an eye.
